Kenneth Lightfoot Medal

Kenneth Lightfoot Medal is presented for the best paper in the previous evening papers session. The award is supported by Lightfoot Defence and the prize includes an engraved medal and a cheque for £500 provided by Lightfoot Defence.  The winner of the award is chosen by vote of the IOR membership.

This year's winners were Andy Person and Maurice Young.

You can read the winning paper here: Ammonia leakage, dispersion and risk assessment by Andy Pearson and Maurice Young.

The paper provides an overview of the current legal framework and explains the procedure to be followed in classification of hazardous areas in accordance with IEC EN 60079-10-1. An approach using new software to model potential releases and calculate the hazard range, is described and new guidance is introduced for those involved in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of ammonia refrigeration systems.
