Servicing Ammonia Equipment (Guidance note 17)

Ammonia refrigerating systems, from the time they are initially commissioned until the time they are de-commissioned and the installation dismantled, require regular routine maintenance work to enable the equipment to operate in a safe and efficient manner and to provide the cooling required by the user. From time to time non-routine service work will be required to rectify faults that develop during operation. This 4 page guidance note identifies routine maintenance, non-routine service work, competence of personnel, users legal duties and has a special note on precautions related to oil-draining from compressors.

NB - Anyone using or planning to use an Ammonia Refrigeration System should in the first instance consult EN378 and the IOR Safety Code for Refrigerating Systems Utilising Ammonia. Members can log in to view this download at no charge.
