The specialist section for maintenance, service, commissioning and installation engineering technicians working in refrigeration, air conditioning or heat pumps gives access to hundreds of free good practice guides produced with the technical backing of the Institute of Refrigeration.

The guides and newsletters are sent by post to subscribers to the section quarterly, to make sure you keep up to date with industry changes and new legislation. See the list of Engineering Technician publications currently available here.

There are no entry requirements, and the subscription is open to anyone working in the sector who wants to develop or refresh their knowledge.

When you join you receive for the £42 annual fee:

  • Quarterly Good Practice Guides and Bulletins posted to your work or home address together with a copy of the ACR News magazine
  • Access to over 200 Engineering Technician good practice guides on line so you can download all of the past section publications (usual cost £6 to non-members)
  • A free schraeder valve tightening tool (normal price £12.50) 
  • A folder to keep your downloads and bulletins in
  • A lapel badge, van sticker and membership certificate

When you renew your subscription in April each year you will receive an IOR CPD Certificate of participation showing your commitment to keeping up to date.

Are you an experienced technician?

If you have more than three years experience and hold an F Gas qualification you could be eligible for full IOR Technician Membership. This combines the practical benefits of Service Engineer Section subscription mailings with IOR recognition through TMInstR initials and Engineering Council EngTech options. There is a very small additional fee for TMInstR and anyone who has been an SES member for two or more years can apply to swap their subscription to Technician Member at no cost!
