Engineering Council Guidance on Security

The Engineering Council’s Guidance on Security has been developed to support engineers and technicians at any career level, as well as others working in engineering, in identifying, assessing, managing and communicating issues about security.

It sets out six key principles to guide engineers and technicians in identifying, assessing, managing and communicating issues about security:

1. Adopt a security-minded approach to your professional and personal life

2. Apply responsible judgement and take a leadership role

3. Comply with legislation and codes, understand their intent and be prepared to seek further improvements

4. Ensure good security-minded communications

5. Understand, comply with and seek to improve lasting systems for security governance

6. Contribute to public and professional awareness of security

IOR is a professional affiliate of the Engineering Council and members can access the Standards and Guidance produced by the Engineering Council to help them improve their professional work and conduct standards.
