Pressure Relief Valve Sizing in Carbon Dioxide systems (GN40)

The methods for calculation of pressure relief valves for refrigeration and heat pump systems are specified in BS EN 13136:2013+A1:2018 Pressure relief devices and their associated piping - Methods for calculation. This is about to be replaced by the International Standard ISO 24664:2023 with the same title.  However with the increasing use of high pressure refrigerant, the information in these standards leaves some uncertainty around the selection of relief devices for systems using carbon dioxide and other high pressure refrigerants. This guidance from the IOR is aimed at assisting designers and specifiers selecting such devices.
