Geothermal heating and cooling for supermarkets
This paper presents a pioneering geo-exchange system which stores heat energy deep underground providing the store with on-demand heating, hot water and cooling has been installed in Sainsbury’s 100,000 sq/ft store in Crayford. The operational data on reliability of the geo-exchange will be presented and details of the 60 per cent reduction in energy demand from the National Grid achieved compared to 2005/6. The paper also covers additional applications of this technology as commercial designs in other extensions and new store developments.
