How to Use the Push-Pull Method of Refrigerant Recovery (GPG79)

Environmental regulation dictates that all waste refrigerant should be recovered to a recovery or receiver cylinder. The 'Push-Pull' method is achieved by pulling the liquid refrigerant out under displacement. Although it is faster than the recommended method of taking the refrigerant out as vapour (as this leaves the oil behind) and less complicated. It is seldom used; one reason is that it is not possible on plant if a liquid connection is unavailable, the other is a lack of understanding of the 'Push-Pull' technique.

This guidance note provides instructions for the Push-Pull method.
