Come to this Midland Regional Meeting and meet the IOR Executive Committee, the Women in RACHP Group and other RACHP professionals working in the local area. The networking will begin at 15.15 and will be followed at 16.00 by an IOR TechTalk exploring why more people don't install heat pumps.

Little has yet been achieved to reduce UK CO2 emissions associated with space heating in spite of the fact that it accounts for 18% of emissions. Part of the solution is to use electrically driven heat pumps, and various UK carbon reduction plans have set ambitious targets for heat pumps to replace central heating boilers in both new-build and retrofit situations.  However even in off-gas-grid areas where heat pumps compete better with oil fuel or direct electric heating, take-up is still very low. In answer to the question of why, this presentation will propose that in numerous ways the heat pump, as currently being offered to UK householders, remains an unattractive proposition!  We will discuss an entirely different approach to both marketing and system installation which could appeal much more broadly to householders, landlords, designers and builders and have a real impact on the market.
