Welcome to Net Zero Refrigeration ticr arrows

The IOR is a partner in a research project that is investigating energy use and greenhouse gas emissions from the transport, industrial and commercial refrigeration (TICR) sectors in the UK.

The project started in December 2022 and focuses on sectors that are major users of energy across many businesses and that will play a critical part in the UK’s net zero agenda. The six subsectors are datacentres, food and drink manufacturing sites, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, retail, cold stores and transport refrigeration units. The outputs of this work will include roadmaps, benchmarks, sector-specific guidance and training events. This information will be added to the project website as it is developed during 2022-23.

BEIS (the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) has funded this research to identify trends, emissions and innovation potential of decarbonising industrial and commercial refrigeration.

The project is being led by London South Bank University with partners Carbon Limiting Technologies, the Carbon Trust, Carbon 3 IT, the Centre for Sustainable Cooling at the University of Birmingham, the Institute of Refrigeration and Star Technical Solutions.
