As National Apprenticeship Week comes to an end, we take a look as one of the most popular pathways to access our industry. Learning on the job is a popular option with 571,630 learners aged 16 and above enrolled in an apprenticeship in the current academic year according to gov.uk

Employers generally view apprenticeship favourably too for the following reasons:

  • Apprenticeships help companies cultivate the specific skills required for their business.
  • Apprentices often remain with the company that trained them, enhancing employee retention.
  • Apprentices bring fresh ideas and extra support, contributing to increased productivity.
  • Investing in future talent enhances a company’s reputation and credibility.

Apprentices in the sector enthusiastically highlight the positive impact of their apprenticeship, emphasising how their employer’s support made all the difference. Chloe Jennings said 'My employer has utmost patience in teaching me best practice within the refrigeration industry. In addition, they understand the importance of STEM outreach, encouraging me to go into schools and deliver lessons to young children, on company time. Every day I learn something new.'

With skills shortages becoming an ever-pressing issue, apprenticeships could be one of the solutions used to ensure that the RACHP sector can meet future demands on our industry. Keen to know how to do it right? Check the IOR’s educational resources to find out more.
