It is with great sadness that we write to share the news of the sudden passing of Reinhard Radermacher,  Minta Martin Professor of Mechanical Engineering and director of the Center for Environmental Energy Engineering (CEEE) and 2015 J&E Hall Gold Award winner.

Reinhard was an internationally recognised expert in energy conversion systems, specialising in heat pumps, air conditioners, and refrigeration systems, and integrated cooling, heating, and power systems. His work generated over 600 publications, including four books, more than 200 invention records, and 17 patents. Academics, researchers, and other inventors alike sought him out for inspiration and insight.

In 1991, he co-founded the University of Maryland’s Center for Environmental Energy Engineering to conduct pre-competitive research in support of industry needs and empower students with the tools to succeed in the workforce.
