Lightfoot Medal CatarinaThe IOR’s Kenneth Lightfoot Medal has been awarded to the team of authors from the London South Bank University (LSBU) led by Catarina Marques for their GreenSCIES project paper on Green Smart Community Integrated Energy Systems - Integration with Data Centres. Presented as part of the IOR’s 2020 TechTalk calendar this paper outlines their work to deliver low carbon, affordable energy through a novel smart energy system that connects flexible electricity demands such as heat pumps and electric vehicles to intermittent renewable energy sources such as solar power.

The Kenneth Lightfoot Medal is presented to the author of the best IOR technical paper given to members in the previous 12 months. The winner is selected by votes cast by IOR members.

The award named in honour of past President Kenneth Lightfoot who sought to encourage young researchers is supported by Lightfoot Defence and the prize includes an engraved medal and a prize of £500 provided by Lightfoot Defence.

Opportunity For Employers To Influence Future Skills

10 Dec 2024

BESA, on behalf of the Engineering Building Services Skills Authority (EBBSA,) are setting up Sector Groups (SG’s) in occupations within Building Services.  The SG’s purpose is to bring employers within specific occupation groups together to determine the roles that exist within that occupational area, thereafter determine a competency framework for these roles.  The IOR is pleased to be invited to support this work and to help co-ordinate outputs with its own plans to map skills needs and roles in the RACHP sector.
