The Women in RACHP gathered this month at Bitzer UK to discuss how to attract a diverse workforce to the the refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump sector. They were joined by education professionals who highlighted opportunities on how STEM (science technology engineering and maths) can captivate young minds and appeal to youngsters from an early age. Recommendations included showcasing possible career paths without a degree, highlighting the attractions for female students of careers in engineering and for the industry to drip feed industry opportunities to children and teenagers along with information on how science is relevant to everyday life. IOR has published its latest Education Guidance Note in the series, this time focusing on Coaching as a way of employers supporting engineering and technician development. The Guidance Note (16) gives a guide to understanding the benefits of coaching, how this differs from mentoring and includes a useful list of organisations who can offer help with setting up coaching schemes or offer coaching.
