City and Guilds have issued a call for refrigeration, air conditioning or heat pump experts to become independent assessors for apprenticeship end-point exams. Next year our first group of apprentices are likely to be taking the new RACHP Engineering Technician end-point exams, part of which includes a supervised practical test and an interview with an expert discussing their day-to-day work. There are a range of roles available across England and Wales. IOR has published its latest Education Guidance Note in the series, this time focusing on Coaching as a way of employers supporting engineering and technician development. The Guidance Note (16) gives a guide to understanding the benefits of coaching, how this differs from mentoring and includes a useful list of organisations who can offer help with setting up coaching schemes or offer coaching.
