Overview

What is The Climate Change Committee (CCC)?

The CCC is an independent, statutory body established under the Climate Change Act 2008. Its purpose is to advise the UK and devolved governments on emissions targets and to report to Parliament on progress made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for, and adapting to the impacts of climate change.

Why take part in this CoolTalk?

The CCC has commissioned a scoping study to assess the resilience of the UK’s cold supply chain to rising and extreme temperatures. IOR members and guests are invited to contribute to the evidence report. This report will give a deeper understanding of how vulnerable the UK cold chain might be to the risks posed by climate change and the extremes of temperature predicted by 2050.

The IOR has organised this event in association with those carrying out the scoping study to allow IOR members to contribute to this valuable work.

Who should attend and why?

The discussions will be relevant to designers, consultants, cold store, retail and manufacturing operators and owners.  The event will be interactive with opportunities to share your expertise in how businesses are already preparing for changing temperatures and to suggest what else needs to be done by policymakers and businesses to ensure a resilient and adaptive cold chain for the future.

Programme

Other environmental projects the IOR is supporting

The IOR is also involved in a project on net zero refrigeration (TICR – or transport industrial and commercial refrigeration) which is evaluating the carbon emissions from these sectors and making recommendations on how to reduce them through a series of roadmaps, benchmarks and guides to be published later this year.
