About This Cool Talk

Successful refrigeration systems depend on much more than selecting the correct equipment. Installation and commissioning practices have a direct impact on efficiency, reliability and long-term performance, yet many common faults can be traced back to mistakes made during these critical stages.

In this Cool Talk, John Broughton will draw on decades of industry experience to explore the key stages of refrigeration system installation and commissioning. Covering topics such as compressor operation, expansion valve performance, evacuation and dehydration, refrigerant charging and superheat settings, the session will focus on the practical details that help engineers avoid costly failures and achieve reliable system operation.

Alongside technical guidance, John will share practical advice and lessons learned from a lifetime working within the refrigeration industry.

What You Will Learn

During this session, attendees will:

  • Understand the key stages of refrigeration system installation and commissioning.
  • Gain a clearer understanding of compressor and thermostatic expansion valve operation.
  • Learn the importance of correct evacuation, dehydration and refrigerant charging procedures.
  • Understand how superheat affects system performance and reliability.
  • Recognise common causes of compressor and electrical failures.
  • Learn how refrigerant migration and oil dilution can affect system operation.
  • Take away practical tips and guidance that can be applied immediately on site.

This Cool Talk is suitable for:

  • Refrigeration technicians.
  • Installation engineers.
  • Commissioning engineers.
  • Service and maintenance engineers.
  • Air conditioning and heat pump engineers.
  • Technical managers and supervisors.
  • Anyone involved in the design, installation, commissioning or maintenance of refrigeration systems.
