Outline
In the talk Judith will discuss the importance of the food cold chain both nationally and internationally. Food chains are essential for food security but are complex and rely on multiple actors to work seamlessly. Increasingly food chains are under pressure due to climate change and world events that change access to traditional food resources. Chains also need to reduce gas emission (reduce energy consumption and move to low greenhouse gas refrigerants) as well as align with current and future energy resources and grids. Food chains are continually adapting to new markets and changes in demographics, and this is especially relevant in low- and middle-income countries. As these countries develop there is a need to develop cold chains as well as creative equitable business models that work for local populations.
Presenter
Judith Evans is currently a Professor at London South Bank University (LSBU) and Director and founder of the testing and development company Refrigeration Developments and Testing (RD&T). During her career, she has worked for a number of research organisations and universities with the main focus of her research being related to the food cold chain and refrigeration. Most of her work has been in an interdisciplinary environment where she has worked with food scientists, engineers, behavioural scientists and management teams.
