The paper will be available in April 2026
This paper presentation will explore the growing potential of high-temperature heat pumps, with a focus on the technologies that make them possible. It will consider the latest developments and touch on the role of refrigerants in enabling higher performance, offering a forward-looking view of how these systems may contribute to future heating solutions.
Brian Gaughan FInstR
Born to an Irish father and an English mother, both from farming backgrounds, I grew up understanding the value of hard work, it was simply part of life.
I was destined to be an engineer, starting with fixing broken toys at a young age and progressing to rebuilding motorcycle engines by the age of 11. With strong grades in Maths and Physics, I attended Grimsby College, where I graduated five years later in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in refrigeration design.
Not many people can say they are still working in the same industry they started in, but I can. Over the years, I have designed and contracted systems across the spectrum, from commercial applications to industrial projects.
After more than 20 years in contracting, I transitioned to product sales with SABROE UK. For the past decade, I have worked to grow the market share of industrial compressors, chillers, and heat pumps. In the field of heat pumps, we now have installations capable of reaching up to 90°C, and with new innovations, we are pushing the boundaries further toward steam applications. The future of heat pumps is incredibly exciting!
