Blue badges picsThe Institute of Refrigeration announced today that eight members had been recognised as Fellows for their leadership and contribution to the RACHP industry.  Their achievements include a scope or different areas of work including promoting skills, innovative research, technical development, innovation, safety and promoting of our sector to schools. This very much reflects the wide range of activities that the IOR is involved in.  

 

The new IOR Fellows for 2021 are:

 

Nick Atkins FInstR. Nick is a member of both the IOR Technical Committee and FETA Technical Management Committee, providing valuable linkage and liaison with the trade association. He is involved in Heat Exchanger Standards developments, has presented an IOR Technical Paper and various other technical articles and helped host a SIRACH research tour meeting.

 

James Bailey FInstR. James is an enthusiast for the reduction of refrigerant leakage and served as a chair of the IOR REAL Zero steering group.  He has been instrumental in presenting several technical papers to the IOR and other UK and international conferences comparing refrigerant alternatives in the practical application of innovation in system design.

 

Dr Catarina Marques FInstR. Catarina is a Senior Research Fellow at London South Bank University and has presented widely on technical topics to the IOR, IMechE and International Institute of Refrigeration. She also works to promote careers in RACHP through active contribution to the IIR Careers in Refrigeration group, IOR Women in RACHP Groups and  talks at UK Careers Fairs.

 

Len Fiddler FInstR. Len has been a member of the IOR since he began is career in refrigeration. He was along term member of the IOR Membership Committee sharing his knowledge of the industry gained from his work in technical advice with a wholesaler. He also served for many years as Secretary of the London Refrigeration Society organising speakers and exhibitions.

 

Ian Fisher FInstR. Ian has been a member of the RACHPEngTech Panel for six years, contributing his practical knowledge of air conditioning and efficiency to many bulletins produced. He is also a proud STEM Ambassador giving talks to careers fairs and schools where he shares his love of the RACHP industry.

 

Declan Fitzmaurice FInstR. Declan has held various voluntary roles in the Irish Refrigeration Institute and is currently their President. He is very active in AREA the European Contractors Association and a member of several CEN Standards Bodies. He promotes the IOR in Ireland, the REAL Zero project and the International Institute of Refrigeration.

 

Mark Forsyth FInstR. Mark has been a vocal advocate of training for many years. He is volunteer Project Manager and Lead Judge for SkillFRIDGE practical skills competitions.  His is also Training Manager for Worldskills UK RACHP apprentices taking part in the World Skills Euro and International Competitions and along with his consultancy work, supports other countries setting up their national competitions.

 

Roger Mapperley FInstR. Roger has encouraged training and apprenticeships through his employer and acted as a mentor to many new engineers.  He supported the IOR Engineering Technician (Trailblazer) development and is part of the new IOR Design Engineer Standards group. He has recently taken on the role of chair of the IOR Apprenticeship Steering Group.

 

Fellows are regularly invited to take part in IOR initiatives, giving talks to share their expertise with the membership and contributing to working groups and committees. So you can expect to hear more from our new Fellows in the coming months.

 

The criteria for Fellow includes: long term commitment to the IOR demonstrated by 10 years of membership, contribution to the IOR and industry beyond the individual’s day to day work and demonstrated leadership in their field.   The IOR Membership Committee considers Fellow nominations in February each year based on a detailed statement prepared by each member and letters of support from sponsors.
