The IOR is delighted to announce that it won the RAC Cooling Awards in the Campaign of the Year Category for its Masterclass Series.
The IOR masterclasses are led by experienced technicians and designed to support colleges and employers who take on trainees (or anyone who wants to refresh their knowledge). The online classes are broadcast live but also recorded and added to a video reference library. They are aimed at students in vocational colleges, particularly apprentices, to support their training and exam revision and are free for anyone to join or listen to.
Judges commented that “this campaign has been described as identifying a problem within the industry and providing a solution; skills shortage and free training…It is both beneficial to the UK as well as oversees and will help the UK goal of working towards to net zero.”
Ian Fisher FInstR, who gave the first two masterclasses was present to collect the award and said “It was an honour to accept this award on behalf of our team for the Masterclass Series at the RAC awards. Being part of a group that is so passionate about our industry and committed to addressing the skills shortage in our sector is truly inspiring. Thank you for this recognition; it motivates us to continue developing more masterclasses, talks, and technical content."
The next masterclass will be held on 24 October and will focus on refrigerant glide and PH Charts. To book your place or view past masterclasses, visit www.ior.org.uk/masterclasses.

BESA, on behalf of the Engineering Building Services Skills Authority (EBBSA,) are setting up Sector Groups (SG’s) in occupations within Building Services. The SG’s purpose is to bring employers within specific occupation groups together to determine the roles that exist within that occupational area, thereafter determine a competency framework for these roles. The IOR is pleased to be invited to support this work and to help co-ordinate outputs with its own plans to map skills needs and roles in the RACHP sector.
