The IOR Industry Skills Alliance has set an ambitious target to engage with 100 schools before the end of the year as part of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness of careers in the RACHP sector.
The initiative will be driven by an expanded network of IOR STEM Ambassadors, who visit schools to introduce young people to exciting careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Through engaging presentations and hands-on activities tailored to different age groups, ambassadors help students understand the vital role RACHP technologies play in modern life and the wide range of career opportunities available within the industry.
To date, IOR STEM Ambassadors have reached almost 50 schools, inspiring young people with practical demonstrations and insights into the sector. The Alliance now aims to significantly increase that impact by encouraging more industry professionals to volunteer as STEM Ambassadors.
Becoming a STEM Ambassador is not only an effective way to promote careers in the RACHP industry but also offers valuable personal and professional development opportunities. Volunteers can strengthen skills such as public speaking, communication and leadership while contributing to their local communities.
The IOR provides comprehensive support throughout the process, from initial application guidance to practical resources for school visits. Ambassadors have access to a range of engagement materials, including promotional literature, presentation resources and interactive LEGO®-based activities designed to bring engineering concepts to life for young audiences.
For anyone interested in becoming a STEM Ambassador, the IOR will be hosting a short webinar on 10 September.
Attendees will learn more about:
· What the STEM Ambassador role involves
· The support available through the IOR
· Resources available for school engagement activities
· First-hand experiences from current IOR STEM Ambassadors
