On 15 May 2026, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) announced its decision to delay changes to the phasedown to beyond 2027.

As a result, for 2027, the relevant phasedown step in Annex 5 of the F-Gas Regulation will continue to apply. A statement confirming this, which has been published on gov.uk, is available here.

For details of the current phasedown programme and existing GB legislative requirements related to F-Gases, see gov.uk

The Institute of Refrigeration will continue to monitor developments related to the proposal to reform the HFC phasedown schedule and issue updates to members when available.
