The European Commission is reviewing the energy label and ecodesign regulations for commercial refrigeration to assess how these Regulations have performed and to identify potential improvements. As part of this work, the Commission has launched a consultation questionnaire and invitation to submit further evidence, seeking input from the public, companies and businesses, academic/research institutions, business associations, and consumer and environmental organisations. Feedback received will help shape future policies to ensure that they remain effective, efficient, and aligned with technological and market developments.

The specific Regulations in focus for this work are:

  •  (EU) 2019/2024 Ecodesign requirements for refrigerating appliances with a direct sales function and
  • (EU) 2019/2018 Energy labelling of refrigerating appliances with a direct sales function.

The products affected are:

  • Supermarket cabinets (refrigerators and freezers),
  • Ice cream freezers,
  • Refrigerating vending machines,
  • Gelato-scooping cabinets
  • Beverage coolers.
