Workshop 1
11th April, 12:55 -14:25 BST
Carbon reduction opportunities for the food chain
Workshop Chair: Julie Hanson (GCCA)
The food chain is estimated to produce 20-40% of total global greenhouse gas emissions. With many countries developing carbon reduction strategies, the food chain will have a significant role in reducing emissions and enable countries to achieve these pledges.
This workshop will present information from research projects working to move the food chain towards a sustainable future. It will also explore what is being done to address the challenges faced so carbon neutrality can be achieved by 2050 in the food industry.
Programme
Reducing emissions in the European food chain, introduction to the ENOUGH EU project, Kristina Norne Widell (SINTEF Ocean)
Mapping emissions from the UK refrigerated food cold chain, Alan Foster (LSBU)
Mapping emissions from the UK refrigerated food cold chain, Yosr Allouche (IIR)
Opportunities for reducing carbon from food chains, Judith Evans (LSBU)
Smart new technologies for the food chain, Silvia Minetto (CNR)
Smart solutions for the aquaculture and fisheries value chains to reduce food waste and utilise by products, Maitri Thakur (SINTEF Ocean)

Projects on clean and efficient refrigeration solutions for food and healthcare sectors in developing countries
Workshop Chair: Didier Coulomb (IIR Director General)
This workshop gathers the ongoing projects in developing countries that will help promote the adoption of climate-friendly cold chain, air conditioning and refrigeration techniques as well as the introduction of sustainable off-grid solutions in both food and healthcare sectors
