Joining instructions

Please note: All timings are British Summer Time 

 

The conference will be using the online platform Gather Town. Gather Town is organised like an online multiplayer game. Each person is represented by an avatar. Delegates can walk around in the meeting space and network and chat with the other participants as well as interacting with items in the meeting space. 

What to do now?

Download Google Chrome if you do not have it then:

Set up your Gather Town account. 

To take part in the conference you must set up a Gather Town account. Use the email address that was used to book your place at the conference. 

Set up the account at: https://app.gather.town/app 

Set up your account as soon as possible and take part in one of the practice sessions. 

Your conference joining link was emailed to most delegates on the 4th April. Anyone booking after this date would have received it on the day they registered for the conference.

If you have not seen it, check your spam/junk folder. It would have been sent to the email you used to register for the conference.

Gather Town is now open. Please come in and have a look.

You can arrange to meet your fellow delegates outside of conference hours for the whole month of April. 

The final practice session with members of the IOR team is available on the 8th April at 3pm BST We recommend all delegates take part in this if you have not already taken part in one..

Need some help?

The Live Conference Help Desk will be open during the conference so you can speak to an organiser during the conference if you need some help.

In Gather Town 

Go to the conference help desk. You will find this in the bottom left-hand corner of the main lobby.

Press X on your keyboard then follow the joining instruction to access Zoom. A member of the team will be waiting to help you. 

There will also be members of the IOR team in Gather Town. Use the locate option to find Edith Myers or Miriam Rodway and they will be happy to help you. 

 

Gather Town system specifications:

Gather Town can be used on any computer, either a laptop or desktop, running any operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Linux). Although it is possible to do so we strongly recommended that you do not use a tablet or mobile device.

Recommended web browser.

  • Google Chrome

The use of web browsers such as Firefox or Safari can lead to issues running the platform. 

Do not access Gather Town while using a VPN it will stop your microphone and camera from working.

For the best experience, it is recommended to have a computer or mobile device with at least

  • 2:4 GHz dual core
  • 8 Gb RAM
  • Internet speeds of minimum 10 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload. (If possible use a wired internet connection)
  •  A webcam and a microphone.
